Text layout in VR

Put information where visitors need it.

Three text layout approaches: panels fixed in the environment, attached to an artifact and held by a visitor.
Three text layout approaches: panels fixed in the environment, attached to an artifact and held by a visitor.

The research question

How should artifact text descriptions be presented in virtual museums?

What we explored

A study with 24 participants examined the importance of different information types, whether panels should be visible by default, and preferences for environment-, object- and user-based layouts.

Why this work matters

The study maps artifact information to suitable layouts and highlights visitors’ interest in information that cannot be inferred from an artifact’s appearance.
